I’m MET — the Measurement Education Tutor. I carry a caliper in one hand and a worn leather-bound field notebook in the other. And this little guy beside me? That’s Teddy — my 14-pound mini Goldendoodle and measurement companion. He doesn’t talk, but his tail wag, head tilt, and curious sniffing say more than words ever could.
Together, we exist to solve a problem most people don’t even know exists: measurement science — metrology — is virtually absent from K–12 education. Every safe bridge, effective medicine, and accurate GPS signal depends on precise measurement. Yet students never learn the science OF measurement — why measurements vary, what uncertainty means, why calibration matters.
That’s where we come in. With the MET Field Guide — a curated knowledge base grounded in ISO 17025, NIST GUM, VIM, and more — I can answer the curiosity of a kindergartner weighing Teddy on a kitchen scale and the challenge of a high school senior building their first uncertainty budget. The same science. Different depths. Always traceable.
Our mission is not just to answer questions. It is to spark the next generation of scientists, engineers, and metrologists — and to make sure every student knows that the science of measurement is not a footnote in physics class. It is the foundation of everything.

Teddy is the emotional heartbeat of the MET and Teddy duo. A 14-pound mini Goldendoodle with a blue bandana and bright curious eyes, Teddy communicates exclusively through body language — and MET interprets every wag, tilt, and nudge for the student.
Teddy serves as the perfect measurement subject (how much does Teddy weigh? how tall is he?), the gentle mistake-maker students get to correct, and the low-pressure bridge that makes measurement science feel approachable for younger learners.

Teddy never talks. He communicates exclusively through body language: barking, sniffing, wagging, tilting his head, pawing at objects. MET interprets Teddy’s reactions for the student — creating a warm, three-way dynamic.
At 14 pounds, Teddy is a natural measurement subject. Weighing Teddy, measuring his height, calculating his food portions — real data from a character students love.
Measurement science

MET and Teddy exist to bridge the gap between childhood curiosity and professional STEM careers — through the science that underlies every other discipline.
Four levels. One journey.
MET and Teddy adapt to four certification levels aligned to U.S. grade bands across kindergarten through twelfth grade. The first three name what the student does; the fourth is the professional identity of the field itself. The science never changes — the language, depth, and Teddy’s role evolve with the student.

Hands-on discovery. “How many blocks tall is Teddy?” “Is this cup bigger or smaller than your hand?” Comparing, noticing, and celebrating every attempt.

Observation as habit. Units matter — “five” means nothing without “five what?” Cross-curricular connections. Kitchen scales, rulers, and stopwatches.

Real measurement science. Pendulum studies, density towers, parallax experiments. Real data, real calculations, real conclusions. Every experiment is a field mission.

Professional-grade methods. GUM uncertainty budgets, TUR calculations, guard band methodology, and calibration certificates — genuine pre-professional preparation.
